UX Design Leadership: Embedding a UX-Centric DNA in Enterprise
UX360 Indo-Pacific Speaker interview
In anticipation of the UX360 Indo-Pacific conference — the first regional edition of our UX research and design conference — we’re pleased to share a conversation with Tridib Chowdhury, Head of Discipline – UX Design at Thales.
Tridib has had over a decade-long journey in UX design, leading projects for clients in insurance, finance, and government sectors across APAC, Mumbai, and Dubai. Now, at Thales, Tridib finds himself witnessing and contributing to a scaling user-centered design practice within a large enterprise organization. Having built lean UX teams, Tridib is passionate about co-creating processes while nurturing team growth. For him user research & design is fundamentally about uncovering and solving problems, whether involving an interface or not.
UX360: What motivates you to join the UX360 conference and what is the core message of your talk?
Tridib: The field of UX, like many others, is experiencing significant transformation due to the emergence and anticipation of new technologies in our daily lives. This evolution influences how we implement changes within large organizations to promote a user-focused approach.
I wish to listen in and be a part of the ongoing conversations that are driving this movement and UX360 conference seems to be one of the important platforms for addressing these topics.
I’m joining a panel discussion on embedding UX-centric DNA in enterprise organisations, and I wish to bring an on-ground perspective to this topic.
UX360: How has this impacted your own work and your organisation?
Tridib: Since find myself at the intersection of decision-making and implementation of various initiatives, I get a front row seat to view the changes being made to bring in user centricity to an engineering led organisation.
This gives me feel for how decisions are to be made and what challenges one may face to get them executed.
UX360: How has UX as a practice evolved in the last couple of years, and how would you like to see it evolve in the next few?
Tridib: While UX has always been a multidisciplinary profession, the lines between some of the disciplines have blurred due to the tools available to us. The skills are more accessible now, and design leaders are putting more emphasis on DesignOps and ResearchOps to maintain the standard and consistency of the practices.
This trend will find more traction with the advent of AI augmented design and research methods.
UX360: Given this evolution, what are two expected and two less obvious skills UXers should possess, and why?
Tridib: The world will open up more to UXers that are not only unafraid to dabble in new AI augmented tools for research and design, but also havie a discerning ability to not get carried by them. Designers will build more and engineers will design more.
The ones who thrive will be those with a curious mindset leverage the possibilities in this flux of new technologies.
UX360: Apart from work, what can delegates at the event talk to you about? Do you have any particular personal interests, hobbies or extracurricular activities and engagements?
Tridib: I’ve been playing tennis since I was a kid, and it’s almost always a constant program on my weekend’s agenda. Besides that, my wife and I enjoy our walks at the park with our pet, Zorro and a camera in hand.
