In the lead-up to the UX360 Virtual Research Summit, we had the pleasure of speaking with one of our presenters, Megan Rotkowitz, Creative Director at Propark Mobility.

Megan is a creative powerhouse with a Bachelor of Arts from Rhode Island College (2017) and a knack for blending artistry with strategy. Beginning professionally as a graphic design intern, she transitioned into a full-time graphic and web designer, creating marketing materials and discovering a passion for user experience. At Propark, she’s climbed the ranks from UX/UI Designer to Creative Director, crafting websites, brands, logos, guiding a specialized creative team, and collaborating on tech innovations.

UX360: What motivates you to join the conference and what are your expectations?

Megan: I’m in my era of giving back and contributing to the community that has inspired me and helped me shape my career. After nearly a decade in the industry, I have developed my formula for creative problem-solving in UX that I think could benefit my peers and UX best practices, as a whole. I expect to hopefully make a lasting impact on at least a few peoples’ perspectives.

UX360: Without giving too much away – what is the core message of your talk and what would you like delegates to remember?

Megan: There are two things I’d like the audience to remember. The first is, that everything is connected. Meaning, finding the thing or the concept that connects other things together forms a creative avenue to explore. The second is, there is always a way. This mantra turns into resiliency in problem-solving and gives an opportunity to create boundless solutions. With these two things together, anything is possible.

UX360: How has this impacted your own work and your organisation?

Megan: In my own work, this has become a formula I can rely on for creative brainstorming. It’s useful when the creative team and I are coming up with new and exciting ways to present information to capture our audience’s attention. I host monthly “Creativity Time” meetings with our marketing team that exercise the creative part of the brain. Not only does it help them strengthen this muscle, but it’s also always a fun time! This empowers my peers to observe and stay vigilant when problem-solving in their own work.

UX360: What are the UX research trends that have dominated 2024 and what will 2025 bring?

Megan: Everything AI. From sentiment analysis to eye-tracking, to chatbots and more. There are so many handy programs now that cut down the man-hours that used to be needed to derive similar information. In 2025, let’s remember that AI can be a super helpful tool, but it is simply not the real thing. AI may analyze trends, but it’s people that make decisions. We mustn’t let the robots boss us around! Let’s bring back compassionate diligence in our work this 2025.

UX360: Last but not least, where do you find learning, inspiration and information? Can you share some of your favourite resources with us, be it Blogs, Podcasts, Books, Websites etc?

Megan: My favourite source for the latest in web trends is webdesignernews.com. I can always rely on this site to give me up-to-date information and also inspire new ideas that I can take right back to my work.

A great book is the classic, “Don’t Make Me Think” by Steve Krug. The principals stand the test of time.

And finally, if you’re like me and like to keep work separate from leisure on social media, LinkedIn is a great place to follow people and accounts focusing on things like Figma and Adobe tips, and even to observe what kinds of problems people are having that could easily be fixed with empathy and a UX solution.

UX360: Thank you so much, Megan! We look forward to welcoming you to the event!
